When the west winds blow
And the east winds rise to answer
I will meet you there.
Where the worlds collide,
At the borderlands,
I will hear you there.

For you and I have much to talk about;
About Spirit,
About Nature,
About Love
And Healing.
We will speak the sacred words together
And feel the earth beneath our feet
When we meet there.

The feathers in my wings will start to flutter
Casting sparks across the heavens.
There will be no ‘I’.
No ‘me’.
For the veils of separation will fall away.
Our hearts will dance together in divine communion
To the beat of the shaman’s drum.
Then the flames of Joy will consume us

Making us One.

The Mystery’s wisdom will be revealed;
Unless compassion lives in the world
In our minds
In our hearts
In our spirits
The world will die.

Das Bekenntnis des Komponisten Alexander Skrjabin zu großer Emotionalität, die sich im Titel der Gedenkveranstaltung wiederspiegelt, hatte mich schon im Vorfeld neugierig auf den Konzert-Abend in der Münchner Seidlvilla gestimmt. Geladen hatte MIR_ev das russische Kulturzentrum MIR, anlässlich des 100. Todesjahres des Komponisten. Selbst Künstlerin, darüber hinaus mit einer Affinität zu dem, was gemeinhin als “russische Seele” bezeichnet wird, finde ich viel von meinem eigenen Naturell in diesem Zitat wieder und glaube, dass uns Künstler oft ein drangvolles Seelenleben antreibt, sich im künstlerischen Schaffen ein Ventil zu suchen.

Dazu bedarf es nicht unbedingt eines tatsächlichen tragischen Lebenslaufes; Künstlernaturen neigen generell zu einem Dasein zwischen Brandbeschleuniger und Brennglas. One of the highlights of our holiday in Cornwall was a visit to the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden.

Barbara Hepworth, who was born in Wakefield, left their home in Hampstead and moved to Cornwall with her then husband,  fellow artist  Ben Nicholson, and their young family at the outbreak of the Second World War. They set up home in Carbis Bay, just up the coast from St Ives. In September 1949 she bought the Trewyn studios in the centre of the small seaside town. This week I am reminded of this image from the Frontispiece of The Way to the Sabbath of Rest (1709) by Thomas Bromley. If you look at this image, you will see three circles with three crosses. In the bottom dark circle is written “Sathan” (a variant of satan) and in the top light circles we see “Sophia.” These three circles are similar to the image from Bohme.  In Böhme’s image, we see dragon’s in the bottom dark circle and a dove (holy spirit) in the top light circle.

Thomas Bromly is of the same visionary tradition as Böhme, called theosophy. When most people think of theosophy they think of  Helena Blavatsky (1831–1891) and the Theosophical Society founded in the 19th century, but theosophy is a much older term dating back to…
